SPCI´99: ABB's Vision for 2000 and beyond: The president's view

At a press conference yesterday, Dinesh Paliwal, the president of ABB Worldwide Pulp and Paper Industry, explained ABB's plans to reinforce the company's global leadership in its core business sectors. Addressing a large group of the industry's trade journalists, he outlined ABB's vision for the next millennium: "In the past, we've been known as a power generation company, but we now want to be seen as a knowledge-based software company" Paliwal pointed out that with some 15,000 software engineers dedicated to development and applications, ABB actually has more human resources in software engineering than Microsoft!Key to the business is automation. ABB Automation is the largest automation group in the world with a target revenue of USD 10 billion for 1999. Last year the company made its most expensive acquisition ever with the purchase of Bailey Hartmann for over USD 2 billion. Together with Bailey, the company now has over USD 30 billion in installed assets and it's still growing."I've been in this sector only 8 months, but in the industry 20 years, and I've never been so excited," Paliwal said.To find out more about all aspects of ABB's business, visit the stand - it's hard to miss!(Papernews)
